The UK government is now actively supporting the rise of driverless cars. So far, that has resulted  in a small investment of £19 million. And a report, released on 11 February 2015, called "The Pathway to Driverless Cars".

More important than the money is the intention, summed up in this statement from the government's transport minister Claire Perry: "Driverless cars are the future."
