The economist Tyler Cowen has made a simple, yet important observation: that we can already see the future in countries like Israel and Singapore.
In a post called To which country does the future come first? he observed some of the reasons:
- Tech is making inequality high, and rising.
- There are guaranteed incomes (I'll be returning to this theme).
- Many are choosing less materialistic, more "experientialist" lives — that is, choosing what they do over what they have.
Here at the Future is Already Here we believe in exactly this idea. For more on this, read The Manifesto and The Method. This method strongly suggests that, if you want to get a sense of what the future holds, you should keep a close eye on advanced societies like Israel, Singapore, and South Korea.
